We can’t wait to see this (literally) groundbreaking show in September!
We’re excited about the upcoming Boundaries Obscured show at Haunch of Venison, one of our favorite galleries in Chelsea. For more information about the upcoming show, head to Flavorpill.

The show “Double Vision,” is not near us, but we do love LA-based John Baldessari. The installation shots look enviably lovely. It looks like a show that falls into the theme of many group shows closer to home in Chelsea this summer, of art about art and art history, examining from a bit of a distance.
For more reference, this is a great segment on Baldessari from the great PBS documentary series, Art:21.

Jim Lambie is at it again! The Goss Michael Foundation in Dallas presents an exhibition of the multi-talented artist through September 3rd. Lambie’s body of work is the intersection of music, art and fantasy which culminates in a fun and energetic show. Don’t forget to look down…Lambie is best known for his brightly colored vinyl tape-covered floors, this one titled Zobop Flouro from 2004.

Anne Truitt
Sun Flower, 1971
Acrylic on wood
72 x 12 x 12 inches
From the late great minimalist sculptor, Anne Truitt. This piece is at Matthew Marks Gallery, and is also the iconic work on the cover of her memoir, Daybook. An artist worth being familiar with—see recent press below of one of her most recent solo shows at the Hirshhorn in DC.
And a thoughtful Washington Post obituary.

Daily Pic: Nan Goldin’s “Trixie on the Cot, New York City”, from 1979, is the most powerful image in the summer group show at Matthew Marks gallery in Chelsea. I remember first seeing Goldin’s shots when I was working as a hack photographer in the early 1980s, and thinking that they lacked any specifically artistic or aesthetic values. (I was a recovering Ansel Adam-ite, newly under the sway of Lee Friendlander.) Then, in the early 1990s, I remember thinking that the glory and worth of Goldin lay specifically in that lack. And now, after decades of little Goldinians following in her footsteps, Goldin’s own photos look as full of style and aesthetics as any mannerist painting.

“Portraits,” 2010.
In honor of the late, great Lucian Freud, who passed yesterday night. This is a wonderful documentary made by Jake Auerbauch last year, about Freud as seen by those who sat for his paintings. It serves well as a tribute to an epic career.
